THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE GRAPE VARIETIES OF PELOPONNESE

Kotrotsos winery makes high quality wines from the most representative grape varieties of Peloponnese.
The grape varieties we use are the following:  

WHITE GRAPES VARIETIES

MUSKAT OF PATRAS

A remarkable aromatic grape variety which thrives in the region of Patras and gives rise to PDO MUSKAT OF PATRAS (sweet wine). The dry version is an excellent aromatic dry white wine.

MOSCHOFILERO

Mostly cultivated in the region of Mantineia it is a popular semi- aromatic red grape variety with small grapes. It produces dry white wines.

RODITIS

This white grape variety is found all over Greece and mainly cultivated in the Prefecture of Achaia. Being a PDO product in certain regions of Achaia, it produces wines with rich flavour.

CHARDONNAY

It is found all over Greece and mostly in Peloponnese. It is a quite robust early ripening grape variety. It ripens during the last ten days of August. It produces high alcohol wines with very complex aromas of exotic fruits, peach and melon. It is a PGI Achaia (Achaean Local Wine).

RED GRAPES VARIETIES

 AGIORGITIKO
A multi-purpose red grape variety which thrives in Northern Peloponnese and particularly in Nemea (Nemea once was named Ai-Giorgis). It produces excellent aged and young wines.

MAVRODAPHNE

It is a red grape variety thriving in Achaia and in some regions of Cephalonia. It produces the unique dessert wine under the indication PDO «MAVRODAPHNE OF PATRAS SWEET RED WINE».

CABERNET

It is a cosmopolitan red grape variety cultivated in most regions of Greece. It produces red wines with long term ageing potential. Thanks to its aroma and flavour it is easily distinguished from the other cosmopolitan grapes. It is a PGI Achaia (Achaean Local Wine).

MERLOT

It is a French grape variety. Being cultivated in certain regions of Greece as well as in Achaia, it ripens during the last ten days of August. It produces a dark, full-bodied youthful wine with velvety tannins, fruit aromas, distinctive acidity and long finish. A PGI of Achaia (Achaean Local Wine).
